Legendary NBA coach Pat Riley is making a play in the real estate game by putting his longtime beachfront Malibu home up for rent for $18,500 a month. Riley and his wife purchased the oceanfront abode on July 14, 1989 for $1,600,000, back when ‘Riles’ was still winning championships with the Showtime Lakers in L.A. Since then, Riley has moved onto more NBA titles in Miami, first as head coach and more recently as Team President of the Heat, which might mean he’s spending less time on the West Coast.

The home is located within an exclusive gated enclave off of Broad Beach Road, and has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms,  plus an office where Riley likely spent many late hours breaking down the Celtics defense or writing plays for the likes of Magic Johnson, while waves crashed a few feet away.

The floor plan includes a large living room with fireplace, open kitchen, and walls of glass for great, natural light. Outside, expansive patios have limitless views of the Pacific Ocean. Riley and his wife won’t be missing the summer in Malibu, though, as the rental isn’t available until September 1, 2013.

Even when they do rent it out, they won’t be going far. They also own the house two doors down, which has 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and 2,088 square feet. They paid $7,000,000 for it in February 2007.

The gravel-voiced tough guy, Nick Nolte, has decided to sell half of his massive Malibu, California compound for a cool $8,250,000. Known in later years for his very public run-ins with the law, the Oklahoma native has been acting and making movies for years, including powerful performances in classics such as Cape Fear, a harrowing thriller and 48 Hours with Eddie Murphy, not to mention his recently released, Gangster Squad, which features Nolte as the Chief of the LAPD.

Although he famously spoke out against the sky-high salaries of actors, Nolte has certainly gotten paid over the years – enough to own a huge property in the exclusive community of Malibu.

His estate is wooded and extremely private, comprising two acres in the stunning Bonsall Canyon. The home is over 6,000 square feet and includes 4 bedrooms and a number of high-end finishes throughout, including stone and carved wood, as well as Italian marble floors and and Mahogany French doors.

The large master suite includes multiple fireplaces, a sitting room, and office, as well as commanding views of the property. Outside you will find a tennis court, as well as a pool and spa, perfect for soaking up the Malibu sunshine.

A-list director Judd Apatow, famous for movies like ’40 Year Old Virgin,’ ‘Bridesmaids’ and ‘Knocked Up,’ and his actress wife Leslie Mann have just purchased a Malibu Colony home for $10,825,000 from the estate of late ‘Pretty Woman’ producer Laura Ziskin. Property records show that the deal closed on March 19, 2013.

The Apatow/Mann family’s new oceanfront contemporary cottage is theirs just in time for summer! The home is situated in the exclusive guard gated and celebrity-laden community of Malibu Colony. A romantic 1930′s bungalow, the home is tranquil yet chic and comfortable and sits directly on the beach. A gourmet kitchen and cozy family room open to a private, lush courtyard entry. The living room, dining room and cozy sunroom all feature expansive ocean views and lead to patios and the private Colony Beach. The second floor features 3 ensuite bedrooms.  The large master bedroom overlooks the Pacific Ocean through a wall of glass. The master also includes a wood-burning fireplace and a spacious patio leading to the sand. The property also features a two-car garage and a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom guesthouse.

According to other plugged-in real estate sources, the Apatow/Mann family are looking building a massive custom home on a lot they purchased in Santa Monica last year for $8,600,000. Their forthcoming custom digs must be something amazing, because they’d be decamping from a home in Brentwood that they paid $18,250,000 for in 2009. Apatow also still owns a 4,356 square foot Beverly Hills Post Office-area home that he purchased in 2005 for $1,656,000.

Pamela Anderson, the iconic sex symbol who etched herself into the American psyche by donning the famous red Baywatch swimsuit, is slightly underwater when it comes to her finances. For months and months, the blonde bombshell has been plagued with negative news stories about unpaid taxes and out-of-control spending on her home remodel. And despite being a household name, Pam is now doing what any other American in her situation must do –  downsize! The blonde beauty often rented out her longtime Malibu Colony home, but now, the property that was once her sanctuary is a money pit, and she’s officially put it on the market for $7,750,000. Property records show that she purchased the home on December 29, 2000, for $1,800,000. There’s no telling how much Pam poured into the home’s construction and multiple remodels over the years, but with the listing price almost $6 million more than what she paid for it, here’s hoping she’ll make a profit so she can put her financial woes behind her.

Pam’s amazing home is within walking distance from all things Malibu. Finely crafted, the teak-sided home is perfect for enjoying quiet beach days, while still being close to the action. According to listing information, you “enter through the front Barb Wire stone gate, cross the small courtyard of olive trees and lavender, and push open the ultra-wide swinging glass door, and find yourself in an open living room and kitchen design with a top-of-the-line home theater and black baby grand piano.”

Philip Vertoch was the home’s architect and Josh Chryssanthou and Pamela Anderson herself are responsible for the design.

                Chris Cortazzo holds the listing.

Dave Matthews, the musician who has seen off-the-charts success as frontman of “The Dave Matthews Band,” has just put some of that music money to work — the singer just paid $6,575,000 for a six-bedroom, five-and-a-half bathroom estate in Malibu, according to The Real Estalker. That’s mere pocket change for a guy whose band is one the highest grossing groups of all time. During the period from 2000 to 2010, the Dave Matthews Band sold more tickets and earned more money than any other act in North America. Even more than ‘N Sync, Britney Spears, and the rest of the red-hot pop stars of that time.

Since Matthews has made big money in the music biz, he’s investing in real estate. This most recent purchase is a ‘European Country Estate’ in a prime Malibu location. Situated on 1.78 acres of rare flat land in the sought after Point Dume area, the newly renovated home clocks in at approximately 7,000 square feet. The property also features a pool, spa, and Riviera III beach rights down to Little Dume Beach. Additionally, the estate comes with active plans and permits with the City of Malibu for a 900-square-foot guest house — a recording studio, perhaps? Extensive gardens and an apple orchard round out the large parcel’s lush grounds, which also offer plenty of space for a tennis court and/or horses.

Matthews also owns a modest home in Seattle, Washington, and 11 homes in and around Charlottesville, Virginia.

                    Barbie Dreamhouses Throughout the Years!

After four decades, one of Malibu’s most famous residents is putting her iconic beachfront property on the market. It’s a buyer’s dream come true — Barbie doll’s famous Dreamhouse is for sale!

Though she’s known for being a fashion icon, it’s not just Barbie’s personal style that has received a great deal of attention over the past four decades; the ultra-fabulous world in which she lives gets kudos too. And since she’s always living in the moment, it makes sense that the Dreamhouse — which has always given girls a guide to glam, a license to dream, and a way to play in Barbie’s uber fashionable world — has been renovated and redesigned more than 10 times over the decades. We’ve seen Barbie’s design aesthetic transform from the original 1962 multi-colored, swirling Mod style Dreamhouse to the ultra-glam, modern-chic, three-story Dreamhouse of 2012.

Let’s take a tour of Barbie’s Dreamhouses through the years!

                    1962 Barbie’s Dreamhouse

Barbie’s first-ever, modern-style studio was made completely out of cardboard, with the exception of the pink plastic hangers in her closet! The record covers displayed in Barbie’s studio even showcased real bands from the early ’60s.

This mid-century home’s design was all about open spaces and nature-inspired colors — like harvest gold and sunny orange tones; modernism and abstract expressionism, which Barbie took from the runway to the hallway, were also big inspirations.

                    1974 Barbie’s Townhouse

This three-story townhouse came with its own working elevator and is considered to be one of Barbie’s most iconic houses to dateBarbie’s use of bright turquoise, yellow, orange, and brown reflected this decade’s most popular colors for décor. The iconic townhouse also showcased the new obsession with modern conveniences, like the novel inclusion of an elevator!

                    1979 Barbie Dreamhouse

This refreshed Dreamhouse featured many new accents and accessories, including planters, shutters, working doors, and windows. The home was so popular that it was produced for almost a decade in a range of colors, including pink and white. The A-frame style — which dominated the design space in the 1970s — featured pops of bright color, and plastic and vinyl furnishings addressed the fascination with convenience and tech.

                    1983 Barbie Townhouse

The totally ’80s three-story Barbie Dreamhouse featured doll-tastic design updates to reflect the decade’s style: bold design and more sophisticated colors and details — it was a time of decadence, after all — and a fully-functional pink elevator.

                    1990 Barbie Magical Mansion

Of all Barbie’s residences, this lavish mansion was truly upgraded. It featured working electronics, like a ringing telephone and doorbell, and a glowing accessories, like a fireplace and chandelier. The Dreamhouse’s design retained the indulgent influence of the ’80s, but it also addressed the growing fascination with taking comfort to the next level by adding electronic enhancements and increased functionality.

                    1998 Barbie Deluxe Dreamhouse

Continuing to evolve and reflect modern styles, this Deluxe Dreamhouse featured fully-furnished rooms and a swing on the front porch. Architectural details included stained glass windows, a balcony, and pink arches and columns. Reflecting the times, comfort and space were Barbie’s top priority for this Dreamhouse. Color trends for this time period were also honored, and the décor evolved with a more monochromatic color palette.

                    2012 Barbie Dreamhouse

A revamped version of the “Magic Sounds” townhouse from the ’70s, Barbie doll’s iconic home received a pink-tastic makeover. The three-story Dreamhouse was reinterpreted for today’s girl and includes a pink personal elevator, flat screen TV, outdoor whirlpool tub, and lights and sounds on every level. Today’s design is in line with Barbie’s super-busy, working-woman schedule; she wants modern conveniences — like an elevator and a deluxe TV — in a luxurious setting, and she’s got it!
